Residents of Achiase, Mpasaaso, Manhyia, Adiembra and Asuokoo in the Ahafo-ano South West District of the Ashanti Region are living in fear due to the escalating activities of illegal chainsaw operators who are encroaching upon and exploiting their forest.
This situation is creating a sense of insecurity and anxiety among residents who rely on the forest for various resources and livelihoods.
The illegal logging is not only damaging the environment but also undermining the local economy and social fabric of the communities.
Speaking to the media at Mpasaaso no.2, the youth leader Kwadwo Asare, said the presence of illegal chainsaw operators and their activities instill fear and anxiety among community members who feel their safety and access to resources are threatened.
It was recalled on Thursday, July 17, a renewed gang clash at Mpasaaso No.1 and No.2 left one person dead and three others in critical condition, including a pregnant woman, plunging the community into fear and uncertainty.
He therefore appealed to the interior minister Hon. Mutaka Mubarak and the IGP to come to their aid.
Some farmers in the affected communities say, their lives is at danger.
