Former Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East and ex-Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson, was reportedly attacked by unidentified thugs at a polling station in the Ablekuma North Constituency during the ongoing parliamentary rerun election.

According to eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred in the late morning hours while Hon. Koomson was observing the election process. A group of unidentified men approached her aggressively, resulting in a physical altercation that saw her pushed to the ground. The situation quickly escalated, creating panic among voters and electoral officials present at the scene.

Fortunately, a team of police officers stationed nearby swiftly intervened, dispersing the attackers and restoring order. Their timely response is believed to have prevented what could have been a far more tragic outcome.

This incident has raised serious concerns about security at polling stations, especially during politically tense rerun elections. While the motive behind the attack remains unclear, some political observers believe it could be linked to lingering tensions from Koomson’s tenure in office.

Hon. Hawa Koomson, known for her strong political stance and controversial past incidents, has made headlines in the past for her aggressive approach to politics. As a result, she is believed to have garnered political adversaries, which may have contributed to the attack.

Electoral officials have yet to comment on the incident, but security has reportedly been increased at key locations across the constituency to prevent further violence.

The Electoral Commission has assured the public that the rerun election will proceed as planned, with safety measures in place to protect voters, candidates, and officials.

As investigations into the incident continue, many Ghanaians are calling for a peaceful and violence-free electoral process, emphasizing the importance of democracy and the rule of law.
