The Municipal Chief Executive Officer for Suhum in the Eastern region, Lydia Ohenewaa Sarah, the Ghana Immigration Service in collaboration with its stakeholders, Engage Now Africa, Non Governmental Organization has rescued 42 illegal immigrants at Asikafo Ambantem, a suburb of Suhum who had been deceived into under the pretence of offering them jobs.
According to the Municipal Chief Executive Officer, the vigilance of the Ghana Immigration Service in the area with support from Engage Now Africa led to the rescue of 42 foreign nationals who has been deceived by some people in the name of offering them jobs in the country.
She said even the Lord lords of these foreign from Nigeria and other African countries cannot be found, thereby sounding a stern warning to house owners to carry out due diligence before giving out their apartments to foreigners since it ends up in breeding criminals tormenting the citizens.
She also charged the residents to report suspected foreigners who might be hiding in a house to the security agencies for further investigations so that, they can live in peace.
She stated that, her outfit with the immigration service will be on the lookout to ensure that, all illegal immigrants are flask out of the Municipality for peace to prevail in the area.
The Director in charge of Sub-Sahara Africa, Engage Now Africa, Afasi Komla said the victims were recruited by some unscrupulous person to engage in dubious work such as 'sex work' in the country.
He said they are engaging the authorities of the various countries where these people come from so that, they will be sent back, appealing to the public to support them to be able to return the people to their country of origin.
