Ghana is in mourning following the passing of one of its most iconic and beloved musical figures, Charles Kojo Fosu, widely known by his stage name, Daddy Lumba. According to an official statement released by D106.9 FM and the Fosu family, the legendary highlife musician passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025, after a short illness.

Daddy Lumba, whose musical career spanned decades, was not only a celebrated singer and performer but also a cultural symbol whose influence resonated deeply across generations. With a soulful voice and deeply emotional lyrics, his music became the backdrop to countless love stories and life experiences in Ghana and beyond.

“Daddy Lumba was more than a musician; he was a cultural icon whose music touched countless lives. His soulful voice provided the soundtrack to our love stories, and his poignant lyrics captured the poetry of our struggles, dreams, and resilience,” the statement read.


 

The Fosu family, represented by legal counsel Fati Ali Yallah, Esq., of Baba Jamal & Associates, expressed their profound sorrow and requested privacy during this difficult period of mourning.

Born Charles Kojo Fosu, Daddy Lumba rose to fame in the 1980s and became one of Ghana’s most successful musicians, with numerous hits that continue to enjoy airplay and influence today. His contributions to Ghanaian highlife music earned him legendary status and countless accolades throughout his career.

As Ghanaians across the globe begin to come to terms with this loss, tributes continue to pour in from fans, fellow musicians, and public figures alike, all celebrating the life and legacy of a man whose artistry defined an era.

Funeral arrangements, according to the family, will be announced in the coming days.
