Hon. Lydia Ohenewa Sarah, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Suhum Municipal has led a clean-up exercise at Suhum Township in a commendable effort to promote environmental cleanliness and foster communal spirit.
The initiative forms part of the Municipality’s broader agenda to improve sanitation and instill a sense of environmental responsibility among residents. The clean-up exercise, which saw active participation from residents, municipal workers, volunteers and Security Egencies, focused on the removal of waste, clearing of drains, and general tidying of public spaces.
The MCE’s hands-on involvement served as a powerful example of leadership by action, highlighting the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining a clean and healthy environment. The MCE Lydia Ohenewa Sarah speaking with iTV news reporter Apelete Kofi-Michel, emphasised the critical need for proper waste management to safeguard public health and enhance the aesthetic appeal of communities.
She encouraged residents to take ownership of their surroundings and work together in sustaining cleanliness, not just during organised clean-up events, but as a daily habit. The initiative also served as an educational platform to raise awareness about effective sanitation practices and the long-term benefits of environmental stewardship.
By engaging directly with the community, the leadership of the Municipality aims to strengthen civic responsibility and build a more resilient, united society. The impressive turnout and enthusiastic participation underscore the potential of such initiatives to bring about meaningful change.
