Accra, Ghana – The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mubarik, has directed the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yehonu, to arrest and prosecute any state official involved in illegal mining activities, popularly known as Galamsey, regardless of their political affiliation.
Speaking at the 17th Commanders’ Conference held today at the National Police Headquarters in Accra, the Minister emphasized that the fight against Galamsey must be pursued without fear or favor.
He described the menace as a serious threat to Ghana’s natural resources and a matter of high concern to the President.
"Galamsey remains one of the most pressing issues affecting our environment and water bodies. The President has expressed his full support for the IGP to take decisive action in putting an end to this," Hon. Mubarik stated.
The Minister also commended the IGP and the entire Police Service for their professionalism, bravery, and ongoing successes in combating crime and maintaining peace across the country.
He further urged the IGP to arrest all individuals found culpable in the violence that occurred during the recent Ablekuma North by-election rerun, stressing the importance of upholding law and order during electoral processes.
IGP Christian Tetteh Yohonu in his remark thanked the Minister for his continued support and assured him of the Service's commitment to upholding justice and protecting the peace and security of the nation.
