Minister for the Central Region, Hon. Ekow Okyere Panyin Eduamoah has take the opportunity and speak to the ITV News Emmanuel Kobina Arthur called on Ghanaians for a change in attitude on the low level of respect and perception given to skilled and artisan works in the country.
Speaking at the Central Regional House of Chiefs in a working visit with the Minerals Commission on Wednesday, he bemoaned that skilled work has for a long time been disregarded by indigenes of the country amid its immense contribution to the growth of the nation.
Adding that it's only through skilled and artisan works that the country can boost of mechanical engineers, drivers, fashion designers, building engineers, manufacturers, carpenters, masons, tilers, among others to drive the country's economy forward.
According to him, the time is now for Ghanaians to place much value on skilled work, having had the John Dramani Mahama-led administration see the importance of craft works and have thus introduced the 'National Apprenticeship Programme' to aid equip enough Ghanaians with the skill they desire to acquire to help in the government's nation building agenda.
Hon. Ekow Okyere Panyin Eduamoah, therefore, charged chiefs and Ghanaians in general to discard the notion of perceiving skilled and artisan works to be an occupation solely designed for academically poor individuals, since such perception has for years caused dearly to the country's development till date.
The Regional Minister again admonished chiefs of the house to exercise their authority as the true custodians of the land by forsaking the apologize of any politician in issuing sections to every indigene who flouts to engage in communal labour to sanitize the community and environment they live in.
