Larit Royals School at Somanya-Havanna in the Yilo Krobo Municipality of Eastern Region outside the compound, a wide, stagnant pool of water which posed threat to children.
The school needs a safe, open space for play and movement has been swallowed up by water. The compound is Waterloo, slippery, caked in mud making the pathways impassable.
Investigations conducted that whenever it rains, water collects across the compound due to lack of proper drainage, classrooms sometimes floods.
The playground becomes unusable, and on some days, school has to be dismissed early.
The area concern citizens expressed their frustration, "The children playground is always full of water" lamentations. A culture of silence deeper issue, a culture of silence around problems that directly affect children in Larit Royals School in Somanya.
Multiple sources from the community says the problem has existed for years without any structural intevention. No proper drainage, and the school site on a low-lying plot, turning it into a catchment for runoff whenever it rains.
Somanya-Havanna community questions the school authorities children safety, the problem required a holistic approach, founded on environmental impact assessment to be addressed.
Larit Royals School lack proper drainage system to help solve the flooding situation or to relocate the school to prevent any disaster in future.
