The secretary of the Commercial National Motor Riders Union, Mr. Abdul Razak Rahman has urged all Okada riders to obey road traffic regulations governing their work to pave the way for the legalization of their business.
Speaking at a sensitazational tour and community engagement program held the church of Pentecost Kasoa Obom road, Mr. Rahman said there's going to be a district/Municipal sensitization tour to educate all the Okada riders towards the pending legalization
The union in collaboration with Ghana police MTTD, DVLA, National Road safety Authority and the media were present for the sensitization tour and community engagement in the preparation of the legalization of okada business.
The police MTTD was there to caution the riders about the safety measures that needs to be followed to avoid accidents and injuries on the road.
Speaking with iTV news Supt. Hannah Agyei, the Central East MTTD commander, Ghana police service, edged them to follow road regulations and laws that have been implemented even though the work of the Okada haven’t been legalized.
All riders were also asked to have acquired their license A” which is for riding from the DVLA.
Supt. Agyei insisted on the fact that anyone without a license is not allowed to drive a vehicle or ride any motor bike.
Again the police MTTD advised the riders to put on their helmets and all needed protection gears for their safety.
The DVLA was also present to allow members to take advantage to do or renew their license which was a requirement for the members of the union.
The overall tone of the event was to ensure members and riders do the needful on the road to avoid road crashes.
