ARSENAL could face a nightmare path to the Champions League final after Real Madrid beat Manchester City.
Mikel Arteta's team was one of eight clubs that automatically advanced to the Round of 16.
This means they didn’t have to participate in the play-off stage over the past two weeks, during which Manchester City was eliminated by Real Madrid.
Both City and Madrid are in the same side of the draw as Arsenal, so the Gunners could face Real in the quarter-finals.
First, they need to get past PSV Eindhoven or Feyenoord, who won their matches against Juventus and AC Milan.
Real Madrid is the toughest opponent Arsenal could face in the quarter-finals, along with Atlético Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Bayer Leverkusen as other possible rivals.
If Arsenal advances beyond one of those teams, they might meet Premier League rivals Liverpool.
The Gunners may hope Liverpool gets knocked out along the way, but Barcelona or Paris Saint-Germain could be waiting if Feyenoord is eliminated.
Alternatively, Arsenal might face Lille in the semi-finals, which would be their easiest matchup on paper.
In comparison, Liverpool has an easier path leading to the semi-finals, with PSG and Borussia Dortmund being the toughest teams they could encounter.
Liverpool could face PSG in the next round after they beat Brest, or Benfica following their narrow victory over Monaco.
Aston Villa were pulled out on the same side of the draw as Liverpool and could face Club Brugge or Dortmund in the Round of 16 after those two sides progressed through the play-offs.
