The National Service Authority (NSA) has begun high-level discussions with the Ghana Armed Forces regarding the launch of the National Service Emergency Response Readiness Programme (NSERRP). This new initiative aims to provide National Service Personnel (NSPs) with fundamental military training. The meeting, held on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s vision of fostering discipline, patriotism, and physical fitness among Ghana's graduates.
President Mahama introduced the NSERRP during his inaugural State of the Nation Address to Parliament on February 27, 2025.
During the meeting, Felix Gyamfi, the Director-General of the NSA, highlighted the transformative potential of the initiative, calling it essential for youth development and national renewal. "The introduction of this military training is a positive step that should be embraced by everyone as part of resetting the country, especially for the youth," he stated. Mr. Gyamfi confirmed that all national service personnel will be required to participate in basic military drills and orientation exercises to foster a sense of civic duty and national contribution.
Brigadier General Amoah-Boakye, representing the Military High Command, assured full support from the Ghana Armed Forces for the programme. He confirmed that the military is ready to provide the necessary training once the initiative officially begins.
The programme will include up to two months of basic military instruction, with the first group of service personnel expected to start training on August 3, 2025.
