The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Gomoa East, and H.E. John Mahama’s obvious choice, Hon. Naana Ackom Margaret, made a bold declaration this morning, vowing to transform Gomoa East into a major tourism destination—much like the famed Kwahu Easter celebrations. She made this statement during a brief address at the Assembly Hall, where a mammoth crowd of party faithful and supporters had accompanied her on her first official day at work following her massive endorsement and the long Easter break.
As part of the welcoming arrangements, traditional rulers from both the Akyempim and Gomoa States—representing various parts of the district—came out in their numbers with their elders. Also in attendance were religious leaders, professionals, and technocrats who officially declared their support, shared words of encouragement, offered counsel, and prayed for her success.
The District Coordinating Director, together with departmental heads of the Assembly, held a series of closed-door engagements with the DCE, alongside the Chiefs (Nananom).
After these meetings, the Coordinating Director, Assembly staff, and the DCE met with the party members who had accompanied her.
When Hon. Naana Ackom took the podium, she delivered the following key messages:
1. “I am grassroots. I have risen through the ranks and contributed my quota to the wellbeing of the NDC.”
2. “As a youth myself, I will not disappoint my fellow party youth. My appointment is your appointment. Let’s work together, and I will make you proud by creating an enabling environment for all.”
3. “My appointment is a quadruple independence for the good people of Gomoa East, because I will serve you well, just as John Mahama has promised.”
4. “Gomoa East is an agricultural district—both in crops and fishing. I will pay special attention to the agric sector to boost agribusiness in the district.”
5. “Whether you have a certificate or not, everyone must work. When we were vigorously campaigning for power, no one asked for certificates. Therefore, whether you have one or not, no one should be left behind.”
The DCE acknowledged the hard work being done by Hon. Queenstar Maame Pokuah Sawyer, MP for Agona East, and also referenced the legendary Yaa Asantewaa, saying their fame was not born out of chance or laziness. She pledged to emulate their footsteps.
In conclusion, she humbly asked to be remembered in their prayers whenever they go on their knees.
Thank you.
