The progress of every district and the effectiveness of our local governance system require the active participation and support of Traditional Rulers, the Clergy (both Islamic and Christian), professionals, and all well-meaning citizens. It is in this spirit that the Zongo Chiefs of Gomoa East paid a courtesy visit to the District Chief Executive, Hon. Margaret Naana Ackom.
The delegation, representing all Zongo communities within the district, was led by Nana Abdulai Giwa Issakah I, who serves as the Gomoa Nyanyano Zongo Chief, The visit, which took place on Wednesday, 21st May 2025, was to congratulate Hon. Ackom on her appointment by H.E. John Dramani Mahama and the Vice President, H.E. Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, and her subsequent endorsement by the Honourable Assembly Members.
During the visit, the respected Muslim Chiefs took the opportunity to highlight the pressing needs of their communities and urged the DCE to prioritize Zongo areas in the distribution of development projects and opportunities.
In a statement delivered by their leader, Nana Giwa Issakah I, they respectfully requested the following:
1. Road Infrastructure – He lamented the poor condition of roads in Zongo communities, describing them as unmotorable.
2. Tertiary Institution – He appealed for the establishment of a tertiary educational institution within the district.
3. Healthcare Facilities – He expressed concern over the lack of accessible health centres in Zongo areas.
4. Economic Empowerment – He called for programmes to help reduce the socio-economic challenges faced by residents of Zongo communities.
In response, Hon. Margaret Naana Ackom expressed her deep appreciation to the Chiefs for their visit and goodwill message. She assured them of her unwavering commitment to equitable service delivery and said:
“Gomoa East is a cosmopolitan district made up of diverse people. We are one people with one destiny and a collective responsibility to develop our district. Though I am a Christian, I believe we all worship the same God—whether Christian, Muslim, or Traditionalist. I will never deny anyone what rightfully belongs to them. I am here to serve, and I accept no job other than the one I have been appointed to do. Any opportunity that comes my way will be shared without discrimination—be it on the basis of gender, religion, ethnicity, or disability.”
The Zongo Chiefs concluded the meeting with special prayers for the DCE and made a solemn appeal to the appointing authorities—President John Mahama and Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang— to continue supporting Hon. Ackom with development projects and resources to advance the progress of Gomoa East.
