Two Motorcyclists Burnt to Death in Fiery Crash at Manso Watreso

A tragic accident occurred on Monday morning, August 4, 2025, around 9:00 am to 10:00 am at Manso Watreso in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region, claiming the lives of four motorbike riders in a horrifying blaze.

Eyewitnesses recount that two motorbikes, each carrying two male riders, collided head-on at top speed along the dusty and narrow Watreso road. The impact of the collision was so severe that it instantly caused both bikes to burst into flames. Tragically, none of the four riders survived, as they were trapped under the wreckage and burnt beyond recognition.

Residents who rushed to the scene described the situation as heart-wrenching, with bodies charred and mangled amidst the smouldering metal remains of the motorbikes. Locals tried to douse the flames with water and sand, but the intensity of the fire made any rescue effort impossible.

One eyewitness, Kwame Manu, told reporters, “The sound of the crash was very loud. When we got there, everything was on fire. We couldn’t save them – the flames were too high. It was very sad.”

Personnel from the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana National Fire Service were later called to the scene to help retrieve the bodies and manage traffic along the affected stretch of road. The bodies have since been conveyed to the St. Martin’s Hospital morgue in Agroyesum for preservation and further investigation.

Though the identities of the deceased have not yet been officially confirmed, preliminary reports suggest they were young men from nearby communities within the Manso enclave.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but initial assessments point to over-speeding and reckless riding on the part of both riders.

Residents and community leaders in Manso Watreso have expressed shock and sorrow over the incident, calling on the authorities to intensify road safety education and enforce traffic regulations, especially among commercial motorbike operators who are common in the area.

This tragic incident adds to the growing number of fatal road accidents involving motorbikes in rural parts of Ghana, raising renewed concern over the need for stricter enforcement of road safety measures in these communities.

The Amansie South District Police Command is urging the public to remain calm as investigations continue. Meanwhile, families of the deceased are being supported by local leaders and residents as they mourn the untimely loss of their loved ones.
