The Central Regional Minister, Hon. Ekow Okyere Panyin Eduamoah, has paid a working visit to the Agona Kwanyako Water Plant to obtain first-hand information on the challenges hindering its operations and explore possible solutions.
The Regional Minister embarked on this mission with the relevant institutions and bodies, including all the MMDCEs within the jurisdictions served by the facility.
In recent days, severe water scarcity has affected communities that rely on potable water from the Akora and Ayensu rivers, putting unbearable pressure on MMDCEs to supply communities under them with water tanks. The hardest-hit areas include Gomoa East, Gomoa Central, Agona West, and Agona East
According to many residents, illegal mining galamsey has severely polluted these two rivers, which serve as the main water sources for the Kwanyako Water Plant. The once-clean rivers have now turned into muddy streams, making it nearly impossible for the plant to treat water for domestic, commercial, irrigation, fish farming, and livestockpurposes.
As tradition, culture and governance demand, the Regional Minister and his team paid a courtesy call on the chiefs Nananom, and assured them of the government's full support across every sector of the economy, as well as interim measures to address the water challenges.
Hon. Ekow Eduamoah, together with the hardworking MMDCEs, witnessed for themselves the seriousness of the situation and discussed both short-term measures to mitigate the crisis and long-term strategies to permanently eliminate the menace.
